Learning FUN Ideas
Enjoy these activity ideas for lots of FUN learning:
-
Busy Bees: Write each student's name on a bee accent. Using the beehive, write out five jobs that needs to be completed on the rows of the beehive. At the beginning of the year, explain the jobs that need to be done each day, and the importance of worker bees and their role in the hive (classroom). Assign students to each job or have a student draw the names out of a box. Reassign jobs each day or week, and watch students soar at having a special role to complete.
-
Grow for It! Make an inspiring display to track progress toward a classroom or school-wide goal. Using the sunflower, break the goal into increments and label each leaf with a milestone. Once the class reaches a milestone, make the frog 'jump' up to that leaf.
-
Growth Starts Small! Get permission to create a class garden on school premises. With your students, research some fast-growing plants for your garden. Measure and graph the growth of the plants as you and your students take care of them throughout the spring. Start early and choose plants such as radishes, beans, or nasturtiums. If you do, your plants may produce vegetables and flowers before the school year is out.
- Blooming Board: Create a display that grows throughout the school year. Using a large wall or bulletin board, divide the area into a grid, with a space for each student. Decorate with favorite pieces from the Rainbow Garden Bulletin Board Set to create an atmosphere of growth. At the beginning of the year, add a placeholder to each students' space with the message 'Amazing work coming soon.' Encourage students to display what they're proud of — artwork, their test score, a photo of their soccer team, and so on — and to add/change it up regularly.
